A Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) terrorist has revealed
of a Pakistani ISI conspiracy to provoke sectarian violence in Gujarat,
and Intelligence Bureau officials are linking this to the Godhra massacre.
A Muslim mob burnt alive 58 karsevaks Wednesday last in the Sabarmati
Express just outside the Godhra railway station leading to riots in Ahmedabad
and other Gujarat cities in which more than 200 Muslims were killed.
The HuJI terrorist was picked up in West Bengal after the arrested terrorist
and mafia don Aftab Ansari alias Farhan Malik identified him as a contact.
Officials would not release the name of the HuJI terrorist who is being
interrogated.
The HuJI terrorist was picked up a day before the Godhra massacre. Yesterday,
on the fourth day of interrogation, the terrorist said that he was aware
of an ISI conspiracy to precipitate Hindu-Muslim riots in Gujarat although
he was not part of it.
Officials refused to release details saying that interrogation was going
on.
India's junior foreign minister, Omar Abdullah, has ruled out an ISI
hand in the Godhra massacre but junior home minister I.D.Swamy insists
on a link saying Abdullah is not privy to inside information.
Godhra is a communal semi-urban town that has long been known as a transit
point for Pakistani terrorist infiltrators.
It is widely accepted that the massacre of Hindus was pre-planned although
chemical explosives and assault rifles common to ISI operations were not
used.
A mob locked the doors of the Sabarmati Express, broke the windows with
iron rods and stones, and threw in petrol and acid bombs and doused the
railway coaches mostly carrying women and children with petrol and kerosene
and set it ablaze.
